Chocolate Donuts

I think we should start off the week with a heavy hitter, by that I mean something to hit the tastebuds and the belly hard. A donut—deep-fried flour doused in sugar. Add a cup of coffee to that and it’s almost a perfect breakfast. Well, it is to me.

With that I thought it’s about time I get it on with becoming more adept at making donuts. To start, I tweaked this apple sauce doughnut recipe from Better Homes and Gardens to make it a chocolate donut.

Lastly, and as always, if I can please ask you guys–if you are going to pin any of the images please do so from Better Homes and Gardens and not here, since the recipes reside over there. Thanks!

Love the recipe, but your photos are exquisite! Really beautiful! On my blog I have a recipe of raised donuts made from frozen bread dough, and they are really great. Loved finding this recipe, thanks!!!

Hi. I made these this morning because of this post. Really nice recipe. I kept the cinnamon in because I am Italian and that’s how we roll and took some left over vanilla buttercream frosting, heated it up and added some carnation malt powder for the glaze. Oh my. Wonderful. Good job transforming one recipe to a completely different experience.

My favorite chocolate donut is from Dynamo Donuts in SF – it’s spiced and vegan. They also make a milk chocolate one with a rosy icing. Divine, really.

These look amazing. For some reason I can’t see the full recipe over at BHG. I can just see the recipe list and then it cuts off after 1 cup sugar and I can’t scroll down any further. Any ideas?
