It’s Fall time in Southern California, although you can hardly tell by the weather. No, you will have to look at the slight change in fashion. And by slight, I mean the sudden appearance of beanies on men in tank tops on 80-degree days and scarves on women suffering from the same heat.
It’s a strange phenomenon. I don’t get it. Just like I don’t get young girls in short shorts, tank tops and flip flops in the dead of winter. Of course the dead of winter here is 60-some-degrees—yeah, so I’m wimpy when the temperature dips. I know, I sound old, and according to my little guy–I am.
This past weekend my six-year-old told me, “Mom, you’re too old. I’ll ask dad.” Ahh-hem, is right. I didn’t correct him that his dad is five years ahead of me. Nope, I walked my youthful self over to him, kissed him and told him “Yes, he’ll probably know”.
Then with a slight heaviness in my step, I headed into the kitchen to whip up these cinnamon roll bread pudding trifles. Because the truth is, like it or not, your kid telling you you’re old, kinda sucks in the way that it tells you he’s growing up.
Hit the jump here for the recipe.
Lastly, and as always, if I can please ask you guys–if you are going to pin any of the images please do so from Better Homes and Gardens and not here, since the recipes reside over there. Thanks!

DO I know the feeling. In Australia young girls still are rocking the ugg boots and short short trend in the middle of summer and surprising winter. I can not decide whether I am crazy or they are, either way people tell me I worry about things too much.
Nothing to say for this dessert but YUM. I need to hide this from my caramel loving alter ego or else I might gain 100 pounds!

Your photos are always amazing but I’m especially loving the surface you’re shooting on for these trifles! I’ve never seen one like that, with the textured gold color! Beautiful.

Oh yum! And about being old, well, let’s just say he’ll regret this once he grows up and read it over here 🙂
Until then, forgive that sweet little face.

My mother’s greatest pet peeve is sleeveless, knit mock turtlenecks. They make her pace. “If it’s cold enough for a turtleneck, then PUT ON SLEEVES,” she’ll lament. Maybe some of this bread pudding will soothe her nerves…

As my husbands says, I’ll always act older than him, and he’s 8 years my senior, so don’t sweat it. Somebody has to do it because boys will always be boys. Gorgeous bread pudding recipe, heading over now!

I’m still trying to get over the “dead of winter is 60 degrees” part!! Lol… I woke up this morning so happy that it was 1 degree, and finally above zero here.. it actually felt warm which is kind of scary!!
You know, it’s funny.. my girls (22 and 28 years old) have never told me that I’m old. They made it their mission in life when they became teens to dress me “young”, so that I didn’t look old. They refuse to let me talk about my wrinkles, or complain about being fat. They insist that I have to age gracefully. I’m grateful for that, and for them..
My son (who is 18), on the other hand, loves to remind me of my age.. loves to point out that I’m over 50, and then laugh about it as he’s picking me up and throwing me into the kitchen sink, and turning the faucet on.. Lol.. little jerk that he is. I think that if he truly thought that I was that old, he wouldn’t be starting a water war with me… 🙂
And now for this beautiful recipe… LOVE it!! I need to make it this weekend. It looks absolutely fabulous…
Wonderful post. 🙂

I also have a 6 year old who thinks both my husband and I are “way old”. . she also refers to us as “really big”. . hilarious. I don’t mind these little comments because she still likes to be read to, she still loves hugs and kisses and will still hold my hand (sometimes). When this stops, I don’t know what I will do with myself. .
