I’m so guilty of being an obsessive person. Matt will tell you this is one of the best things about me and the worst things about me.
And when it comes to cake it’s an obsession that won’t let up. I love all cakes, well except for fruitcake. But then again maybe dunked in eggnog and bourbon batter then cooked up as French toast and drowned in butter . . . hmm, something to try this holiday season.
See what I mean—it’s so hard for me to rule out any cake. That said I’m always working towards improving my cake skills and looking for new tools to help with that—whether it’s the baking or decorating.
Today, I’m covering decorating, more specifically this new Chef’n Cakewalk Cake Decorating Kit. Check it out:
- It’s compact in size so its storage needs are minimal. This is a feature I’m always thinking of when purchasing anything because my kitchen space is limited.
- There’s a tool compartment built in below that’s filled with 15 standard tips like open star, closed star, leaf and flowering making tips, there’s even a decorating nail—so you can go crazy. Added bonus—the coupler also fits any of your standard size metal tips, a truly wonderful thing if you are a more advanced baker or you just have a crazy amount of tips like I do.
- My favorite part is how smoothly it spins. It’s actually the first feature I check out when considering any cake decorating stand. I decorated a cake directly on the Chef’n Cakewalk Creation stand and one with my own cake stand to see if there would be a difference in the fluidness of the bearings. I’m happy to say there isn’t any. It spins and moves just as smoothly despite the added weight.
- Another thing I really like is the red ring design on top also minimizes any slipping and shifting.
I love this cake stand for its utility and its versatility in being able to serve a novice to advanced baker. Now I just wish I had a daughter or one of my boys who would enjoy doing some cake decorating with me, because this would be perfect to use with kids (maybe the baby will when he gets older—fingers crossed).
Being that the kid thing was out, I decided to have some fun decorating by myself. I frosted the entire cake in white then blended in orange, green and yellow colors to give it some dimension. I decided to give the cake a festive fall themed look by using varied sizes stars made with the open star tip #846 and tip #342. Instead of just sticking to the top of the cake you can trail along the sides with the stars like I did. I loved that Chef’n had all the tools I needed and was right underneath the stand, within reach for the utmost convenience. Tips, couplers and pastry bag are all self contained in the stand and easy to assemble for those of you just starting out with cake decorating.
This holiday season make sure you put this on your list to receive or to give. It’s perfect for any novice baker since it has everything to get started right away with decorating. And for those more advanced baker, it’s a great extension of what they already have.
Now the fun part, its giveaway time. To enter, just leave me a comment letting me know what’s your favorite cake to make.
