Sleeping in, lemonade stands, and playing until the sun goes down is in full effect as summer is underway in our home.
Well—at least it is for the kids—as adults, Matt and I are trying to keep up with all the madness. And adjusting to the new schedule of out-of-school boredom, excess energy and an even messier house as our boys are home more now.
But time with the kids is so much better than time spent cleaning—so while the dirty clothes are multiplying by the tenfold, the dishes grow a little more vertical and the dust gets thicker—we are enjoying summer like a kid, with our kids.
Oh, and the food for today—no recipe, just a fun 4th of July dessert idea that comes together easily and quickly. Use your favorite yellow cake recipe; layer it with whipped cream and some fresh berries. To shortcut the recipe, use store bought pound cake and whipped cream.

Nice pictures, and this is so simple and zen! I just found you site through your husband’s site. What blog platform do you use? Blogspot? WordPress? Other?
Best,

Cute cute cute! I knew you’d have something fun and pretty for 4th of July for me. I have a party that I have to bring dessert to, and I was hoping for something patriotic 🙂

These look delicious. Is this the same picture that is in the Go Gluten Free magazine?

Hi Katie – Yes, it is. I shot that cover. And the cake is of course GF, that’s why this post does not contain a recipe, but rather suggestions how to make it with your favorite yellow cake or store bought pound cake.
