How to Pair a Dessert Board with Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee

Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee Beer + Dessert Board ~ This is the way to level up your dessert game.

Who has tried the new Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee beer? I am obsessed with it. It’s similar to Guinness Draught, smooth and creamy, but with a strong coffee aroma and flavor.

If you are regular around here, you know my Guinness partnership is hands down my favorite. Naturally, pairing this new varietal with a dessert board was an absolute must.

Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee beer is new, so if you haven’t found it near you yet, the classic Guinness Draught also works well with most dessert boards.

For this board, there are a few key things to keep in mind when assembling one and some answers to questions you may have:

Pairing is key. Find the flavors and notes of your beverage and play off of those. If you are unsure, a safe bet is to find desserts that contain the same characteristics.

For Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee beer, you’ll want to find desserts with chocolate, caramel and butter rich desserts work best, things like chocolate and vanilla pound cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, crème-filled wafers, donuts, sables and butter cookies.

How should a dessert board be assembled?

Gather your components and make sure that moisture rich desserts like cakes are either in liners or placed next to components like chocolates versus cookies where the moisture can zap the crispness out of cookies like sables or other butter-rich cookies.

For maximum visual appeal, make sure to get a variety of shapes and sizes.

Variety is essential when it comes to assembling any board. Make sure you have a little of everything, that includes sweet and salty offerings like chocolate covered pretzels and roasted nuts. Next up, don’t forget the fruit. Fruit filled desserts bring a sweet tartness that does an excellent job with balancing the bitter notes in the Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee beer and provides counter to the other sweet offerings.

Apple Spiced Cake 
Serves 12 

3 cups (14 oz.) self-rising flour
1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 
3 eggs
1 cup (6.25 oz.) Truvia Sweet Complete Granulated All-Purpose Sweetener 
1 cup (5.75 oz.) Truvia Sweet Complete Brown Sweetener 
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup vegetable oil 
1 1/2 cups (5.5 oz.) peeled and shredded granny smith apple, about 2 large

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly coat a 10-12 cup bundt pan with non-stick spray. Set aside. 

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. Set aside.

In a second large bowl, add the eggs, and beat until combined. Add both the Truvia Sweet Complete Granulated All-Purpose and Brown Sweeteners, whisk until fully incorporated. Pour in buttermilk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil, whisk until combined. 

Fold dry ingredients into the wet until smooth. Add the grated apples and fold until just combined. 

Pour batter in prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes or until a cake tester comes out free of wet batter. Transfer cake to a wire rack and let cool in the bundt pan for 20 minutes. Unmold cake and let cool completely on a wire rack. Before serving, dust with Truvia Sweet Complete Confectioners Sweetener. Enjoy outside with a seasonal beverage!
