Dragon Fruit + Melon and Rosemary Vodka Chiller

August 30, 2013 By Naomi Robinson | Bakers Royale 13 Comments

It’s Friday—let’s do this! Today’s drink: a vodka chiller with dragon fruit, santa claus melon and rosemary. Yes, rosemary. Give it a muddle in the vodka, strain and then throw the remaining ingredients in a blender. Pulse, pour and sip. Done.

I’m keeping this one brief. Today is one of those days in which I am actually between projects and with more than one or two spare hours. It’s a glorious feeling and I’m stealing the husband for a day out—with no kids. A rare occasion. Yay us.

As for the drink, don’t worry if you can’t find dragon fruit and/or santa claus melon. Just use the same portions for what you do have on hand, blend the fruit and taste to your preference for flavor and sweetness, then add the vodka. And again, like most of my cocktails, mix to your taste. I’m no mixologist,  so this isn’t the kind  of cocktail that requires precision or hand carved ice.

Side note: For those unfamiliar with dragonfruit –its taste is like a cross between a pear and kiwi. The santa claus melon has a flavor that is a cross between a honeydew and cucumber—sweet with the cool crispness of a cucumber. To read about its interesting name, click here.

Happy Friday!

Need an easy recipe that helps prevent food waste, Need an easy recipe that helps prevent food waste, and saves you time and money? What about a chance to win a $500 Walmart giftcard? I've got you covered then.

This Kale and Sausage Strata is the kind of dish that uses up all those bits and pieces in the refrigerator. This means dig through the crispier and let’s make the most of what’s in there. For what you see here, I threw in two handfuls of kale, 2 cups sausage, some mushrooms and cheese. All things that came together for one cohesive dish. To boost the flavor, I used Morton® Coarse Kosher Salt because its coarse flakes makes it easy to pinch and allows me full control when seasoning a dish.
