Say no Frankensteined-coffee! Buy Green Mountain’s Fair Trade Certified Coffee.

Am I pitching for this company? Yep, and with good reason. The taste goes without saying is awesome. My personal favorite: Donut Shop. But for a coffee addict like me taste is necessity, so I was relieved and happy to know that behind a great tasting coffee is a community driven company.

Green Mountain Coffee has been supporting Fair Trade for over a decade. They purchase directly from the growers. The idea is to promote and support healthier working conditions. And most importantly Fair Trade Certified bans the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO). 

That means tasting good and doing good for your community go hand-in-hand with Green Mountain Coffee.

I know there a lot of initiatives for going green, but small confession . . . I just can’t get behind all of them. Say plastic wrap, I use that like sunblock on a baby. I slather layers and layers of plastic wrap on food all the time.

Same goes for coffee.

But to lessen the burden of  this addiction on the environment I’m happy that my new supplier is a pioneer in the Fair Trade movement and has the largest selection of Fair Trade Certified™ coffees in the U.S.

I have to admit up until a few weeks ago, I never really knew what Fair Trade meant- Gasp! Shame on me, right? So as my good deed to those not in the know, here are a few quick facts what Fair Trade means:

  • Say no to slave labor: Fair trade allows guaranteed pricing for coffee farmers and local growers. Say no to slave labor.
  • Say yes to being green friendly: The environmental impact of Fair Trade means protecting water resources, restricted use of pesticides and fertilizers, and banned use of genetically modified organisms (GMO). 
  • Say hoo-ray to not being price gauged: Green Mountain’s Coffee Fair Trade products cost the same as non-certified products.

    I try to buy fair trade as much as my budget allows it. I love that large companies like Green Mountain and even Starbucks are doing their part to support the farmers.

    I’d love to buy fair trade but it can definitely be hard on the budget. I will definitely try harder to make sure we are buying fair trade!

    I was lucky enough to work at a summer camp this year that had a Keurig…Oh man…was my love for coffee found again! They had almost 2 dozen coffees to choose from but Caramel Vanilla Creme was my weakness! Its SOO good!! Since I’m a nursing student I don’t have the funds to buy a Keurig but I would absolutely DIE to own one!!!

    Fair Trade Coffee is the only way to go! When you think about the quality not only of the coffee, but of the working conditions it brings to the laborers, it is so worth it!

    My favorite coffee is Dunkin Donuts, so it’s a good thing for me that they just recently came out with their own K-Cups. My sister has a Keurig, and it’s great, especially for households that don’t share the same taste in coffee. One can be drinking a coffee shop blend and the other a pumpkin spice – nobody has to “settle.”

    Generally I go for French Roast, but really I like anything big and bold. I brew it up like sludge, so something with lots of flavor. 🙂

    My favorite is the Pumpkin Spice, and that wild mountain blueberry sounds good too, amongst others! My husband’s is Hazelnut. That’s the awesomeness of this k-cup coffee. Everyone can have what they like! What a great giveaway! Thanks for a chance at winning.

    Honestly, I’m not sure what my favorite kind of coffee is! I need to figure it out though. I prefer iced coffee and have been making a coffee “concentrate” lately. I have just bought what has been on sale! 🙂

    I’ve never been all that picky when it comes to coffee as long as it’s not burnt. I would say it would be some flavored Starbucks monstrosity that really doesn’t qualify as coffee, but about a year ago I found this tiny, hole in the wall place in the town where I live called Firefly. It’s all organic, they bake their own sweets, and for students, a cup of coffee is 50 cents. Can’t beat that.

    I am all about some Dunkin Donuts coffee but I would have to say that the fall pumpkin flavor is my absolute fave.

    Don’t laugh, but my first and still favorite coffee is Waffle House’s. After many years of friends nudging different coffees in my direction, I still like it best.

    The Barista Prima® Colombia K-Cup® Coffee sounds good. I usually like Colombian coffee, breakfast blend coffee and the House blend coffee in most brands.

    I like my coffee full of cream and sugar so that it tastes like melted ice cream, so strong or weak…only affect how much cream and sugar I use! LOL I don’t care what kind it is, as long as it has caffeine. I usually buy fair trade organic for myself at home though…whatever roast is the cheapest!

    Coffee is about as fantastic as bacon and I’m pretty sure everyone loves bacon. My favorite coffee is easy. For everyday its Dunkin Donuts Original blend with extra cream and sugar, but fall wins my heart and my craving for Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s. Speaking of which. I think I’ll go and get one now! 🙂
