Brown Sugar Ice-Box Cookies

I have been blogging, for what—three years now? I’m hardly an expert, but I do have certain expectations of myself. Primarily that I should be able to set-up, shoot and edit in half the time than a year ago.

Well, since I’ve failed myself on that, we might as well do another reality check. Cookies. Yep, cookies. Bake them-sure. Develop a recipe-got it. Shoot them—dang, they are a pain to shoot. Truly and honestly I’d rather shoot a banana—okay, not really—I’m being overly dramatic.

But close enough. I don’t know why, but styling cookies is a real booger (yes, I just used that word). There are only so many ways my mind can bend cookies into a creative spin. And in this post, it bent in no way. Same ol’ styling you guys always see. I even tried a different background, seen on my Instagram feed—which I liked better than this set, but too bad I only shot it with my iPhone.

At least what is not the same-ol’-same-ol’ are these brown sugar ice-box cookies. Hit the jump here for the recipe.

Lastly, and as always, if I can please ask you guys–if you are going to pin any of the images please do so from Better Homes and Gardens and not here, since the recipes reside over there. Thanks!

I swear you photos are always a source of my inspiration. You take the best face down shots of food, they are always so clear and composition is flawless.
I like the wooden look, especially with these little rustic beauties.Love an ice box cookie, one with brown sugar and crusted in sugar crystals a bouns!
Heading over to check it out for xmas baking,

Thanks for sharing the agony of blogging photography. Sometimes I just want to cook and write, but wait – I’m losing my light and need the friggin tripod – oye now I gotta save a bit of last night’s dinner to re-prepare it for today’s daylight. You have the benefit of recipes and deliciousness of baked goods – but so often brown. I have the benefit of colorful ingredients, but who wants to make another dish with cabbage. Naomi – your cookies look so good, I’ve now forgotten about the photography dilemma and just want to bake them.

I hate shooting cookies too for the same reason. Only so many ways to stack cookies. Your pictures are stunning like always but I totally get what you mean and for some reason I keep making cookies for my blog and I grumble to myself that every cookie I make and shoot is my last…until the next one. ha ha!!

Shooting cookies really is a booger. So is not getting to eat them out of the screen after looking at a bajillion droolicious photos of them. Juuuust saying.

I’m so happy to hear a pro feels the same way I do about taking pictures of cookies! They are so un-photogenic for me. You’re are always gorgeous though!

Your pictures are beautiful.. Honestly, I now completely understand how difficult it is to photograph food. I’m very new to this, as in launched my blog yesterday new..I’ve completely stressed myself out over pictures! It’s funny you posted this, because I was lying in bed this morning wondering how I could post today with inferior pictures. Then I thought, well everyone has to start somewhere, right? In my mind, I know it’s ok… But like a little kid, I want to start playing the game just as good as everybody else! :-)

I will keep practicing, and hopefully someday will be as good as all of you “big kids” <3

And the cookies? My son will be singing your praises tonight…they look and sound absolutely delish.. If I had time, I'd be throwing a batch together right now to take to work!

Have a lovely day.. :-) thanks for this post.

Don’t be sooo hard on yourself, they are still beautiful pictures! Your lighting is always awesome! Do you shoot with natural light only? Since winter is coming I was thinking I need to find a new way to shoot.

I find the longer I have been blogging, the longer the photo shoots take! It’s just harder to keep coming up with new and original ideas. Yours, as always look spectacular. I am always inspired by your photos and recipes. Keep ’em coming!!
