Let me start by saying I have the book and it’s lovely—so many creative cakes! But if you are anything like me, then sometimes you skim over words, so going visual is where you learn twice as quickly.
Well friends, we are in luck, because Amanda is on Craftsy . If you are a regular reader, then you know I’ve taken their classes before and love them. For those of you new to Craftsy, it’s an online community with top-notch instructors teaching you how to be—well, crafty—be it sewing, knitting, crafting, baking or in this case how to make these fun surprise-inside cakes from Amanda.
In her class you’ll learn how to make a surprise rainbow heart cake, a bumble bee cake, a candle cake, and my favorite the cake with love spelled out inside.
Now for the best part, Craftsy is giving away one Surprise-Inside Cake class to a lucky Bakers Royale reader! Yep, to enter you’ll need to head over to Craftsy (click here) and create an account.
As for how well my first attempt turned out, stay tuned. It isn’t perfect, but I think it turned out well for my first shot at a surprise-inside cake—a solid testament that Amanda did a great job showing each step-by-step in detail. And sure you might be a bit nervous (I certainly was) to take on a cake like this—but let me assure you—Amanda will calm your nerves and take you through every step with lots of details and reassurance. She’s also paced it perfectly that you can easily follow along each step of the way. Which is great, so while you can pause, rewind, and replay any segment as you need—you’ll find you won’t need to do that too much. Along with all that she gives you tips for success in between each section.
Here are few tips when watching the video while making the cake at the same time:
- Place plastic wrap over your electronic, ie. computer or iPad, this will prevent frosting and crumbs from getting all over it.
- Watch the video from start to finish before you get started—trust me this will help with the work flow.
- Have all your tools ready—again, this will help with your workflow.
- Don’t skip on her tips to chill your cake. This will keep it from crumbling while you work with it.
- Most importantly, don’t worry if it’s not perfect like Amanda’s. It takes some practice.
And heads-up, friends: I’m such a fan of Craftsy, I’ve signed up for 7 seven more classes, so stay tuned. I’m bringing you a whole Craftsy series—that’s going to be me sharing with you the classes I take so you can tune-in, sign-up and we can learn together.
